While hunting for a particular species of Rhytidoponera in the University campus, I stumbled upon this ant, Polyrhachis hookeri. Seeing the metallic green sheen from far off I shrugged saying..another Rhytidoponera, but once I got close to it…surprise surprise!! None of the 20 odd species of Polyrhachis that I have so far seen have a metallic sheen. Most of the species I have seen, had a golden pubescence either on the entire body or on the alitrunk or on the gaster.
