Eyre Peninsula, that’s where I was celebrating Easter! My main goal was to try and find the Dinosaur Ants, Nothomyrmecia macrops, at Poochera. However, after a long long search in the night I failed to spot any of them, and am consoling myself that it was perhaps too early in the season to look for them and will try again in a couple of months. On the bright side (with ants, there always is!), I was fortunate to find several species in the night (at Poochera alone) that I had not seen before: 3 species of Polyrhachis, 1 species of Cerapachys, 4 species of Camponotus, 2 species of Calomyrmex, and several Crematogaster species. I continued traveling around the entire Eyre Peninsula and it was truly a remarkable spectacle: for once the prized sighting of the trip was not the ants, but were the sea-lions and dusky dolphins!
